The State of Affairs (August 5, 2016): Live Music Office launches new mapping tool for musicians & more!

This week in the music industry: Th Live Music Office launched their brand new online mapping tool specifically designed to help musicians on tour, the first round of artists to showcase at the 2016 Australian Music Week has been announced and the entry deadline for the 2016 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition has been extended.

Live Music Map by Live Music Office

This week, Live Music Office launched their new online interactive map designed for all members of the music industry. Created in association with the South Australian Government via the Music Development Office and the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project, the Live Music Map aims to support travelling live-performance musicians by simplifying the process of finding local music businesses and industry organisations.

The online map highlights all the essential information needed for a touring musician including; live-performance venues, gear hiring stores, local radio stations, recording and rehearsal studios, music education centres, production and backline companies, agents and promoters, and various music industry organisations.

According to South Australia’s Minister for Manufacturing and Innovation, Kyam Maher, the live music industry currently contributes more than $260 million to the South Australian economy and supports more than 4000 jobs.

2016 Australian Music Week

This week, the organisers behind Australian Music Week announced the first lineup of musicians showcasing at their 2016 event held in Cronulla from November 2nd-4th. The 2016 lineup so far include the likes of Demi LouiseAllan SmithyHedge FundTenderfoot and more. In addition, the event’s musical showcase application deadline has been extended to close on August 19th. More information on how to apply can be found HERE.

Alongside live-performances from fresh musical talents, Australian Music Week will also feature presentations and discussions from a wide range of music industry guest speakers such as Rod Yates from Rolling Stone, Nicholas Jones from Tone Deaf and Glenn Dickie from Sounds Australia.

2016 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition

Entry deadlines for the 2016 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition has been extended to 11:59pm (AEST) on Wednesday August 10, 2016.

The Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition is one of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the world. Each year, the competition is  judged by a panel of internationally renowned songwriters as well as numerous Australian music industry experts. Past winners  include Megan Washington, Kimora and The Preatures.

The Roundup

The 2016 Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival will be held from October 28-30th. This year’s musical guests include James Morrison, Melissa Aldana, The Bamboos, Barney McAll and more. Ticket and event information can be found HERE.

Horrorshow released their new single “If You Know What I Mean” and announced a national tour for October this year.

Alex the Kid signed with Adelaide’s punk/hardcore label Pee Records and announced a national tour for September this year. Their debut album Speak Up is due August 19, 2016.

Melbourne singer-songwriter Alex Lahey signed a worldwide publishing deal with Native Tongue, and released her debut EP B-Grade University.
