the AU Weekend Gig Guide: October 16th – October 18th

The Melbourne Festival this year has once again offered up some stellar shows to punters looking for some of the country’s best live performers in some fantastic settings, not to mention some left of centre concept gigs to explore and become immersed in. While we’re keen to be checking out some surefire highlights of this year’s line up, the AU crew is also set to be hitting up shows down the coast put on by some great emerging and well established talent from a variety of genres.

Thy Art Is Murder – MELBOURNE

Thy Art is Murder bring their latest album Holy War through to the Corner Hotel in Melbourne this Friday night! Fresh off the back of an epic national tour with Parkway Drive, these headline dates are the first for the band since appearing at the UNIFY Gathering at the beginning of 2015. Thy Art is Murder will be supported by Aversions CrownFeed Her to the Sharks and Colossvs. Tickets are available through www.oztix.com.au.

At the Dakota – ADELAIDE

Darwin band At the Dakota are in Adelaide this Saturday night with their debut EP, Stories. The indie pop act have been taking their material to venues in QLD and Melbourne recently, with SA being the next stop on their national tour. Already, the band has enjoyed great attendances at the gigs so far on this tour and for their first show ever in Adelaide, we expect a good crew hitting the Hotel Metro for these guys. The Dead Shades – BRISBANE

Performing their first show in 2 and a half years, The Dead Shades are making sure this Brisbane gig on the weekend is a good’n. The date at The Bearded Lady will also serve as an ‘official’ kick off for the band’s Kickstarter campaign launched to fund the production of their EP Garage a Trois on vinyl. The band will be supported by Vulture Circus and Acid on Andy. Tickets are $10 on the door!

Flight Facilities – MELBOURNE

ARIA nominated duo Flight Facilities will be staging a massive performance of their acclaimed Down to Earth record at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne this weekend, backed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. With a number of special guest vocalists set to drop in, this one is going to be a show people will be talking about for some time. For Flight Facilities 2015 has been an incredibly fruitful year, this show providing just one of the many cherries on top.

Kisschasy – SYDNEY

Kisschasy are bidding fans farewell with a run of shows around the country that will be bittersweet, but also a lot of fun. The boys come to the Metro Theatre in Sydney on Saturday night, performing their United Paper People record in full, not to mention other hits from their career. Kisschasy will be supported by Luca Brasi and Rooftops.

The huge Megadeth/Children of Bodom tour stops by the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney for a cheeky Sunday night show that we’re sure is going to be nothing short of chaotic. The thrash metal legends come to Australia fresh out of the studio where they’ve been toiling away on new material, while Children of Bodom will be bringing out their new album,  I Worship Chaos, to fans in Australia! RÜFÜS bring their latest singles “You Were Right” and “Like an Animal” through to HQ in Adelaide for a show set up as a perfect way to wrap up your weekend. The Atlas trio were last in Adelaide midway through 2014 with the acclaimed album and have since been solidly building upon a stellar live reputation at venues around the country and abroad.
