the AU interview: Katie Wighton from All Our Exes Live In Texas (Sydney) talks Young Henry’s Small World Festival

Ahead of their performance tomorrow at Small World Festival in Sydney – presented by the fine folks at Young Henry’s – we caught up with Katie Wighton from Sydney’s All Our Exes Live In Texas to talk about the festival, the best music in Australia right now and we ask the all important question: what makes a great boutique festival?

It’s a Small World After All indeed. What’s your favourite “Small World” story from your own experiences? That crazy, one degree of separation moment.

A few years ago I was in New York with my bestie and we went to see some music one night. On the way out we heard Aussie accents and stopped to chat to these two guys. Turned out they knew all the same people we knew and we ended up hanging out with them for most of our trip! SUCH A SMALL WORLD!!

What makes a great boutique festival?

I think good boutique festivals involve local businesses. There is so much good food and music around in Sydney these days – I am so stoked to see Cornersmith will be at Small World…. YUM!

Who are most excited to see at Small World, and what song(s) do you hope they play?

I really love Jack Ladder and the Dreamlanders. Their tune Come on Back This Way (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnc2UnHtboU) is SO AWESOME. Can’t wait to have a boogie to them.

What can we expect from your set?

We are just starting our Spring Festival Tour so we have lots of energy to play our new set! We are excited!!

Let us in on what you’ve got coming up…

We are about to head into the studio to record our debut album so THAT’S fun; we’ll be doing some crowd-funding to help get us over the line so watch out for that too.

What’s one album or single everyone in Australia should be listening to right now?

Caitlin Park’s ‘The Sleeper’ is amazing. It came out last year and I’m only just catching up!!
