Tash Sultana releases gorgeous cover for The Last of Us Part II

With the launch of The Last of Us Part II in Australia today, PlayStation have roped in Australian muso Tash Sultana to cover one of the game’s most haunting tracks.

The song, Through The Valley, was originally recorded by Shawn James. It was later featured as an in-character cover by Last of Us 2 star Ashley Johnson in the game’s original announce trailer.

Sultana’s cover takes the best of both and combines them to incredible effect, spinning the Wheel of Genres and landing on Operatic Country. Dressed similarly to the game’s hero Ellie, Sultana allows the song to wax and wane, perfectly encapsulating the mood of the year’s biggest game.

Tash Sultana as been kicking around the Aussie scene for years. Described as a one-person-band, Sultana’s last single, Pretty Lady, debuted in April this year.

The Last of Us Part II is out now, exclusively on PlayStation 4. You can read our full review right here.
