In our 104th instalment of “Stumbled Upon”, we meet Japan’s latest girl band sensation Otoboke Beaver , chat about their love of punk rock, meeting in uni, touring around the UK and get a sneak peak at their latest release, “Akimahenka”.

Otoboke Beaver (It is taken from the name of a local ‘Love Hotel’ in Kyoto.)

How did things get started?
We began in our college days in Kyoto and got started in summer about six years ago. Many bands form at University and it turns out Emi Morimoto (X Shonen Knife) was 10 years our senior at the music circle of the same Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto.

How would you best describe your live show?
Girls, Punk, Rock, Psych, Hardcore, Pop, Garage, avant-garde, Knock-out, Kyoto-expedient…

What shows do you have coming up?
We are so excited as we are going to England to tour for the very first time and we even have two gigs in London on the same day at two of the coolest venues there!
