What music or artists inspired you?
Bob Dylan is a massive inspiration. Sixto Rodriguez as well. From the world of hip hop I would say artists like Brother Ali, Mos Def and Atmosphere. Anyone who tells a story really well and isn’t scared to bare their flaws on a track. i can relate to that honesty and I think it’s so important.

How did you band get started?
I started writing when I was about 13. I fell in love with gangsta rap but realised (after one too many tracks about my gun and my lowrider) that it wasn’t my world and not something i could write about. It was at about 15 that I delved deeper and found some of the aforementioned artists. I started telling stories and writing from a personal standpoint. It was at that age that I first discovered artists like Downsyde and hilltop hoods. Seeing those guys doing hip hop and doing it well made me think it was possible to have a real shot at this in Australia.

How would you best describe your live show:
An uncontrollable ball of energy constantly forgetting set lists.

What shows do you have coming up?
I have a WA run with L Fresh the Lion in January. We are hoping to organise another national run not long after that.

Tell us about your latest release:
Rewrite the Ending is my third EP in the space of two years. I feel like we have hit our stride with this release and it’s definitely the happiest I’ve been with any of the material we’ve put out. Whereas on previous releases I just wanted to write and write and put out everything I’d produced, this EP was a lot more refined and fine tuned. I feel like we are ready for what is about to come and are in a place where we know who we are as artists. I worked with producers Creed Birch and JL who are in my opinion, some of the best doing it at the moment so i feel very blessed to be in the position I’m and to be able to work with these guys on the releases to come

Where can I get your music?
www.marksmanlloyd.com as well as all the usual places, iTunes , Soundcloud and Spotify .
