Purpose makes debut as newest Golden Era Records artist via Adelaide collective’s 2016 cypher

The Golden Era Records Cypher is finally here! Hip hop heads have been hanging out for this one for what’s seemed like an absolute eon but considering the year the Adelaide hip hop label and its artists have had in 2016 – we shouldn’t have worried, the GE crew were always going to deliver.

Swapping the 2015 cypher setting of basement nightclub Zhivago for the more spacious, timeless stage of Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre, the Hilltop HoodsK21The FunkoarsBriggs and Vents take their turns in getting playful with the Snowgoons-produced beat, while the cypher itself also doubled as an introduction to the newest member of the Golden Era clan, Adelaide rapper Purpose.

Purpose isn’t a new name, especially not to Adelaide hip hop fans, but his induction into the GE fold points to an exciting new chapter in the rapper’s career, especially with 2017 just around the corner.

We see K21, another artist who’s been showing signs of potential throughout this year shine, not to mention Briggs and Trials who’ve dominated much of the Australian hip hop landscape this year on their own. It’s fun to see the hip hop crew lean back into their own and unleash – regardless of the strength of their various solo projects, together they’re still a force to be reckoned with.
