Playlist: Get a taste of what to expect from BIGSOUND 2017’s first crop of showcasing artists

Hoo boy, BIGSOUND is coming out strong this year with its first artist announcement dropping today. 64 Australian bands and international visitors have been revealed to be heading to Brisbane in September for the huge music conference and showcase series, the event beginning to nip at the heels of its overseas cousins in standing strong as Australia’s largest new music discovery event.

Numbers are expected to meet and even succeed 2016’s stats, which saw 7000 people hit the streets of Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley for a run of amazing live shows and panel discussions with industry members from all over the world. The formula is strong, clearly, so with 2017’s event now edging closer and closer, it’s going to be very interesting to see how BIGSOUND continues to flourish.

Among today’s first artist reveal are some of our favourite emerging artists from last year, in Alex The AstronautWinston Surfshirt and Alexander Biggs. Joining on with the likes of Fanny LumsdenDaggy ManHorace Bones and Hayden Calnin, these artists reflect a musically diverse melting pot and will benefit from the spotlight BIGSOUND provides. From the UK, SPLASHH will be in Brisbane to showcase their wares, as will NZ’s own Bespin and Merk.
