For one more time this August we’re updating our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music with some of the best new music from across Australia and internationally. Naarm-based singer-songwriter and producer Eyes of Bel is in the spotlight, taking home Track of the Week for her new single “Bygones Will Be Bygones”.
The single, which dropped on Wednesday, is the latest tease of the Naarm-based artists forthcoming EP, End of an Era – releasing November 13th. Written as a performance to stop performing, take a step back, and let go, “Bygones Will Be Bygones” sits in the sweet spot between intimacy, vulnerability and dynamism. The production is minimal and restrained, but it still feels impactful and engaging; which is no small part to a captivating vocal performance from Bel.
Asha Jefferies is a songwriter we’ve long loved for her deft phrasing and ear for melody, qualities that consistently help her stand above the crowd. On “What The Hell”, the final preview of her forthcoming second album Desire Is An Angel, she once again finds a way to make complicated emotions feel immediate and beautifully articulated. As Jefferies explains, “I wanted it to feel celebratory, not self-centred. And walk the line of expressing forgiveness and resentment. It’s a song about wanting someone’s words to reflect their actions and vice versa.” Desire Is An Angel arrives 2nd of October. An east coast tour kicks off in November. Head HERE for dates.
Also added to the playlist this week is “Nevermind”, the new single from transcontinental sibling duo Desperately Seeking Suki. Written by Natassa Zoë, following a breakup, “Nevermind” is this gorgeous, hazy slice of indie pop exploring heartbreak, memory and the blurred lines between reality and imagination. It offers up this really captivating blend of nostalgia, restlessness, and bittersweetness, all filtered through a bit of an art pop sheen.
Joining them on the playlist is Sydney five piece MOONWOOD with their new single “Bite My Nails”. It’s all about silencing your inner critic and going all in, whether you’re scared or not. Building slowly to a more dramatic finale, “Bite My Nails” despite its confessional roots gives an altogether more breezy and relaxed vibe than you’d expect. It’s full of charm, and will have you digging deeper into their back catalogue.
UK/France pop-duo, Disgusting Sisters bring their wonderfully warped sense of humour to “Not Cool”, from their forthcoming debut album Skin and Blisters, out 30th October. If you’re thirty-six years old and buying your boxers at the supermarket with your mum, then this might make you rethink your life choices.
MARLON continues an impressive start to his solo career with “Psycho”, the second single from the Darwin-hailing singer-songwriter and former AFL player following his 2026 debut “Blood in the Water”. Built around a prowling bassline, bouncy beats and an effortless R&B groove, it gives MARLON’s silky vocals plenty of room to shine. Amid the silky-smooth vocals, there’s a compelling contrast as MARLON confronts how pain, anger, fear, and insecurity can shape behaviour and affect those closest to us. He describes the track as “the conversation I never wanted to have with myself”, framing self-awareness and accountability as the first steps towards breaking destructive cycles.
Also added to the playlist is “Black Flower” from Kamilaroi and Samoan artist Becca Hatch, and “ouarzazate” from Nigerian-Romanian artist IOCO. “Black Flower” is the title track from Hatch’s forthcoming EP, set or release early next year. According to Hatch, ‘“Black Flower” explores what it means to be a young woman; specifically an Aboriginal/Samoan woman, growing, evolving, and learning how to take up space.’ The result is a captivating burst of RnB, soul and electronica that has us excited to hear the rest of the project.
Meanwhile, “ouarzazate” is the third track from IOCO’s debut EP, ijebu gypsy, which was released last week. The track, and the EP, is captivating blend of RnB, Afro-House and ambient textures, and offers listeners a nuanced exploration of themes of grief, identity, purpose and spirituality. “Ouarzazate” in particular features some gorgeous vocal and spoken word elements.
Finally, we have “Chrysalis” from Haast Hunter and “(Not) Easy to Love” from Jack Biilmann, both of which we premiered earlier in the week.
