Canberra singer-songwriter Jack Biilmann has been a firm favourite around these parts for some time, and we’re delighted to be premiering his latest single, “(Not) Easy to Love”, ahead of its release this Friday, 28 August.
We most recently featured Biilmann in June with “Never Have It All”, another strong addition to a particularly productive 2026 that has also included the singles “Outlaw”, “Forbidden Fruit” and, most recently, “Dark Days”.
Billmann always writes from the heart, and “(Not) Easy to Love” is another shining example. He wrote it as a tribute to his wife Jodi, reflecting on their eleven years together and the understanding and patience required to share a life with an artist. “(Not) Easy to Love” is a love song grounded in gratitude, celebrating the person who stays beside you through all the complexities that life can bring. There’s an infectious, upbeat groove running through it too, showing that deeply personal and reflective songwriting doesn’t have to come at the expense of a good time
Musically, Biilmann draws on two significant influences, Jimi Hendrix and Chris Stapleton, placing the track somewhere between blues and country rock. It’s also a song that has already proven itself live, with Biilmann pointing to audience response as one reason it was selected as a single.
Biilmann explains:
“This song just came from a riff I had stockpiled and total appreciation for my wife Jodi. Since we got together eleven years ago I have been counting my lucky stars for having her in my life. As the song suggests, at times I am not the easiest person to be with & mixing an artistic career into a relationship is never easy. She does it with ease, she understands me and I am proud to have this song on the album to celebrate her. Musically I love the feel of this one; it really draws on my influences of Hendrix & Chris Stapleton to create a sound thats right in the middle of Blues & country rock. I hope listeners can feel the appreciation attached to the song & relate to it in their own lives. I think the hook & groove is very catchy, this has been proven at live shows which was another big reason for it being picked as a single.”
“(Not) Easy to Love” is the final single to be lifted from Biilmann’s forthcoming album, Move The Mountains, which arrives on 25 September. He’ll then take the record on the road, beginning at Jindabyne Brewing on 30 September before an extensive run of dates across NSW, the ACT and Victoria stretching into February 2027.
