As we come to the end of the month we have added another ten tracks to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music. Our Track of the Week this time around goes to Swedish rising star Boy Destroy and his new single “No Sleep”.
Released via Dew Process the single is a banging slice of punk pop that practically demands to be sung along to. According to Boy Destroy, “No Sleep” ‘is about a feeling of wanting to burn out at an inexplicable rate because you can’t stand being yourself. When you need to take something to get up in the morning and something else to get to sleep at the end of the day.’
The lyricism might err on the gloomy and brutally honest, but combined with angsty guitars and addictive hooks and a catchy chorus, you’ll soon find yourself coming back for more.
Another of our new discoveries, thanks to their recent performances at The New Colossus and SXSW is Berlin based rock outfit Jealous, who channel the New York sound of bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Rapture in their latest single, the catchy and ethereal “Red and Yellow All Over”.
Also added to our playlist this week is “Take Ten”, the new single from Kyiv-based alternative rock band Milktuth. A collaboration between members of two different groups, the track is a powerful, atmospheric and emotional sucker punch of track inspired by the ongoing war in Ukraine. It’s a swirling, immersive fusion of alternative rock and shoe gaze that just draws the listener in brilliantly; and what a vocal!
So!YoON, vocalist and guitarist of the band SE SO NEON, has worked with RM of BTS on a hypnotic track for her latest solo album titled Episode1: Love. “Smoke Sprite” is a true collaboration, composed and written by both young artists. The song marks one of a few groundbreaking collaborations RM has made over the last year, working with the likes of Erykah Badu, Balming Tiger, Tablo from EPIK HIGH, and Anderson .Paak.
Carla Wehbe has today released Jupiter and Mars, her latest EP. We spoke to Carla last week about the EP, and of the title-track, “Jupiter and Mars”, Carla said “It’s about feeling close to someone, yet so far. You could be sitting next to someone but be feeling so distant from them. Or they could be so far away, yet you feel really close to them. It’s about that dynamic. “
The Rions have kicked on since they won the 2019 triple j Unearthed High Competition. We saw that at BIGSOUND last year, and were blown away by them. They are back with their first track of 2023, “Scary Movies”, a song about how fun it can be to fall in love. We believe they will be announcing a tour soon, so keep a watch out for that one.
“Worst Taste In Girls” is the latest high-octane banger from Sydney’s Charley. Reflecting her own unfortunate choices in the dating journey, the track is another solid step forward for the artist who has amassed over six million streams for her past three singles – “Hard For Me”, “Arizona” and “I Suck at Being Lonely”.
Finally, we’ve added two two tracks for the exclusive premieres we hosted this week, from Damien Binder and ALLORA.
