As we head into Splendour in the Grass this weekend, we’ve added 10 new tracks added to our Discovery Playlist on Spotify and Apple Music; including two tracks we exclusively premiered. Our track of the week is “On Your Own” from Naarm indie rockers The Velvet Club.
The Velvet Club have been working hard this year, on national tours and finessing their sound. Their latest track to drop, “On Your Own” deals with anxiety and is infused with their signature up-tempo vibe. They sing of tackling the problem head-on, rather than pretending it doesn’t exist. And if you are heading to Splendour this weekend, be sure to catch them at the Byron Bay Brewery stage.
“Diving” is the latest single from UK indie heavyweights Bombay Bicycle Club, and the second to be released from their recently announced sixth studio album My Big Day – due October 20th. The track sees the band enlisting the help of indie-pop rising star (and long time fan) Holly Humberstone. The result is a track that is bright, playful, emotive and just joyful. The vocals of Humberstone and Jack Steadman fit perfectly together too.
Bree Rusev, a 20-year-old artist from Newcastle continues to impress with her poignant and incisive tracks. “Burn Out” acknowledges those relationships that are lost as we move through life. This guitar-driven track was produced and mixed by local legend Garret Kato. Bree is one to watch in the future.
“Gotta Go” is the new single from Swedish singer-songwriter Varas, and comes fresh off the back of his recent EP There You Go! The track, an up-tempo slice of alt-pop, features a very Blur-esque guitar riff (you can’t really miss it). The whole thing is a lot of fun, and such an ear worm!
Sydney inner-west duo Casa Rosa have dropped their new single “All That I Need”, a classy alt-country track. The two brothers, Josh and Sam Harper have melded a lovely blend of blues, country, and indie music into a winning sound of their own.
Night Walks are a rock band hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. They were formed in late 2020 at the height of the pandemic, and are now releasing their debut single “Sidelines”. Sonically, they bring to mind the synth-soaked rock of The War on Drugs, especially with that guitar tone. This might be their debut single, but the quartet don’t seem short on confidence or swagger. French’s vocals are a particular highlight.
