New Music Discoveries 1st July: Broken Bells, Missy Higgins and more

New Music Discoveries 1st July

We’re welcoming in July with ten new tracks added to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music, including one track we exclusively premiered earlier this week. The new single from Broken Bells, “We’re Not In Orbit Yet” heads up the playlist as our Track of the Week.

“We’re Not In Orbit Yet” is the duo’s first offering from their forthcoming third full length album Into The Blue. The track oozes with Broken Bells’ unique and signature style. It’s lush, a little bit ominous, but completely captivating. Gorgeous! Full details of Into The Blue are forthcoming, so for keep an eye out.

Joining Broken Bells on the playlist this week we have a trio of fantastic female artists. “Dandelion” is the new single from Norwegian pop juggernaut Anna of the North. With soaring vocals and cathartic and emotive lyricism, the track follows up recent single “Meteorite” (feat. Gus Dapperton in strong style.

“I Take It Back” is the new release from Missy Higgins. It’s the final track from her recent Total Control mini album. An empowering anthem, according to Higgins the song is “about reclaiming your story, identity and power as a woman. It draws on the history of women being forced into a cultural narrative that diminishes their power. It creates space for all that fury, resentment and uncomfortable emotion to finally rise to the surface. But it’s also a celebration of everything we have inside us and everything we can achieve once we’ve harnessed this power.”

Melbourne-based singer-songwriter and AU favourite BATTS announced her sophomore album, The Nightline this week, dropping new single “Call It What It Is” at the same time. It’s another stunning track, with a beautiful central vocal performance, and a powerful message. The more we hear from this album, the more excited we get. October 14th can’t come fast enough!

“Illuminate” is the debut single from Brisbane alt rock band Plain Colours. It’s a high energy, engaging and wholly enjoyable way to spend four minutes of your life. A strong opening salvo from the Queenslanders!

Keeping things rockier we also have “Never Miss”, the debut single from Derry punk rockers Parker. It comes as the band announces a run of Irish headline dates and some UK festival appearances. Big energy, big vocals and somehow even bigger choruses “Never Miss” will not done prove a hit on the road.

Rounding out the playlist this week we have new tracks from Totnes’ Pale Blue Eyes, German singer-songwriter THILO and US songwriter and producer Travie Austin. Finally we also have “Spines”, the new single from Sydney singer-songwriter Darcy Lane, which we premiered yesterday.
