Massive lineup revealed for BIGSOUND 2023

The full lineup of artists to showcase at BIGSOUND 2023 in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley from 5-8 September has dropped, and it’s jam-packed with your next-favourite bands.

BIGSOUND is a thrilling slice of the best of the emerging Australian music scene. With eighteen venues within walking distance of each other, Fortitude Valley comes alive during BIGSOUND. From country to rap and hip-hop, soul to funk to folk and punk, there really is something for everyone.

With 141 artists, it’s difficult to highlight just a few.  See below for the full lineup. Amongst those performing are local favourites Full Flower Moon Band, Zheani, Felivand and Baby Prince.

There were over 1300 applications for a coveted spot at BIGSOUND 2023. One of those that had the torturous task of selecting the 141 successful applications was Bigsound Co-Programming Lead and Sunroom Co-Director Ruby-Jean McCabe, who writes “Once again this year we had the unenviable task of reading, listening to and enjoying several thousand BIGSOUND applications from all over the country and world. While this is definitely our favourite time of the year, because we get to listen to so much amazing music, it can be our least favourite as well. As bookers we have to make the hard decision of whittling down these acts which felt like an impossible task given the talent in front of us!

“We feel this year’s lineup is one of the strongest we’ve ever seen showcase at BIGSOUND, which makes the task harder than ever before. The future of music in Australia is continuing on its upward trajectory and with this lineup, it’s obvious it will continue to do so.”

Hall-of-famers from previous editions include the likes Tones & I, Flume, Thelma Plum, King Stingray, Tash Sultana, Courtney Barnett, Gang of Youths, HOLY HOLY, Rufus du Sol, DMA’s, A.B. Original, Ball Park Music, The Jungle Giants, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Northeast Party House and more.

The lineup is proportionately representative across the board, with 27 percent of artists as LGBTQIA+ identifying, 18 percent First Nations, and 50 percent female or gender non-conforming.

In NAIDOC week, it’s worth noting that Australia’s First Nations talent is well represented, with 27 artists to grace the stage, including Melbourne/Naarmhip hop act Miss Kaninna, rising country act Loren RyanDean Brady, The Merindas, J-MILLA, CLOE TERARE, Tjaka, Kobie Dee and Southeast Desert Metal
