Live from the ARIA 2012 "Red" Carpet with the AU review: Part One!

Once again the Australian Music Industry’s “night of nights” has come and gone, seeing the venerable Gotye retain his crown of “Best Male” as well as taking out two other awards including the big one – “Album of the Year”. London based, Melbourne bred The Temper Trap were the only other multi-winners of the night, taking out two awards, while indie heartthrob Matt Corby won song of the year for “Brother”.

AU review favourites DZ Deathrays and The Jezabels also took out a gong each, which we have to admit we were pretty stoked on. The definitely highlight of the night, however, was the Yothu Yindi performance featuring Peter Garrett, Dan Sultan, Jessica Mauboy, Gurrumul and many more… But before all these awards were given out, and the performances performed, we had the opportunity to grab many of the nominated artists and presenters on the “red” carpet (it was actually very much “black”). We streamed the interviews live via SoundCloud which worked reasonably well except for a couple of flaws:

1. Certain other journalists were pains in the arse and interrupted our interviews several times throughout proceedings. Most of the time they named themselves so the naming and shaming doesn’t need to be done here. It is highly competitive out there; everyone is looking for their sound byte. It’s fair enough, but when you’re only given 90 seconds or so per artist, surely you can wait those 90 seconds before you butt in. Alas… it certainly makes for some interesting listening.

2. It was really hot.

3. We fucked up The Jezabels interview and SoundCloud received an incomplete version of it. We had backup audio and we’ll get the full interview up in part two of this series, along with our backstage content featuring Gotye, Kimbra and more…

4. We were all wearing black and it was really hot. Black was a bad choice.

And that’s about it… so with that all off my chest, I present to you the first half of our live from the red carpet ARIA 2012 coverage on the AU review… enjoy!

Brief note about the Bluejuice interview: we kick into the interview talking about the stunt plane adventure we went on together courtesy of Red Bull, back in September. You can learn more about what we got up to HERE.
