Interview: Nathan & Jack of manicSOUL check in ahead of Festival of the Sun

Port Macquarie’s own, manicSOUL, are preparing to tread the stage at Festival of the Sun in a few weeks – representing for their picturesque part of the mid-north coast, the duo are eyeing up a big show to cap off a fruitful year. Purveyor of ambitious and playful hip hop that is already beginning to make waves locally, we learn some more about manicSOUL before FOTSUN welcomes them as artists, as opposed to the long-time punter status they’ve enjoyed for so many years already.

Today we’re talking about Festival of the Sun in Port Macquarie! Firstly, have you played it before?

We’ve actually never played it before but it’s in our hometown, so we’ve attended for years. It’s a pretty chill festival; we’re just looking forward to getting wild and meeting some of the artists.

Top 3 things you have to do at the beach, go!

Hang with the crew, drink Henny annnnnnnnnd swim!

Top 3 things you have to do when camping! Go!

Hang with the crew, drink Henny and kick it in a camp chair.

Specifically for those who aren’t familiar with your music, what can we expect from your set at FOTSUN?

Energy, good times and a bit of fun! Guest appearances, maybe some tinnies with the crowd, who knows what could happen – it’s FOTSUN.

What are YOU expecting from the crowd at FOTSUN and perhaps more generally the festival itself?

Hopefully everyone just has a good time and enjoys themselves, that’s what it’s all about.

Are there any other acts yours excited to see? One stage = no clashes!

Super keen to see Meg Mac, Horrorshow, Sampa The Great and Ivan Ooze.

Tell me a little bit about 2017 to date for you? What have been some of the highlights?

We worked on a five track EP titled Summer for the last half of a year and that was super fun. We worked with a bunch of cool people from around our town as well and it was definitely a cool learning experience. We also got to support Drapht and Pez in Coffs Harbour, which was sick because Pez is Nathan’s childhood idol.

Other than FOTSUN, what does the rest of the year hold for you?

Probably just working on our next two EP’s and preparing for the next year!

Festival of the Sun takes place in Port Macquarie from December 7th – 9th. The event is completely sold out, but for more information about the festival, visit www.fotsun.com!
