Interview: Against the Current talk tours, Aus bands and video games

New York pop-punk trio Against the Current have been simmering away as ones to watch and it’s about time the rest of the world gets a taste. After rising to fame with their Riot Games collaboration “Legends Never Die” (the League of Legends World Championship theme) in 2017, the band have since amassed hundreds of millions of streams and shared the stage with Fall Out Boy, All Time Low and Good Charlotte.

As part of their Nightmares & Daydreams 2023 world tour, Against the Current will be heading to Australia this September and October. The six-date tour will see them play Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Belgrave, Adelaide and Perth, with supports yet to be announced. In the meantime, the band will be heading across the US this April and May with our very own Trophy Eyes and Yours Truly.

We had a chat with the band about tours, local bands and, of course, video games.

You’ve had a lot happen as a band in the last year or so. How does it feel to have so much in the works?

It’s exciting! We have a massive year ahead of us and are so pumped to dive in.

You’ll be touring the US with our own Trophy Eyes and Yours Truly this April/May. Where are you most looking forward to playing?

Yes, we’re thrilled to tour with them both! New York is always a great one for us as most of our families come to that show.

Will we get another taste of new music before the US tour begins?

We’re hoping so, but don’t want to reveal too much!

What are you most excited about touring Australia this September/October?

It’s been awhile since we’ve made it back to Australia, so we can’t wait to hang out with the Australian ATC fam.

Did you know you had such a big following here?

It’s definitely surprising how much it’s grown since we were last there, we’re stoked to be back.

What are your favourite local artists?

Biased because they’re our friends, but we’ve gotta shout out Yours Truly. We’re so pumped to tour with them again as well.

What can fans expect from the live shows?

It’s going to be full of energy, so we hope everyone’s ready to be jumping, dancing and screaming the words right along with us.

As avid pop culture heads, what are each of your favourite video games of all time?

For Chrissy, definitely League of Legends. Dan is super big into F1. Will loves him some Mario Kart.
