Coachella has dropped its 2017 lineup this morning, confirming its headliner rumours and solidifying one of its most diverse and impressive lineups in its history. From its headliners – Beyoncé, Radiohead and Kendrick Lamar – to a supporting cast that includes the likes of NZ act Broods, Aussies King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Bon Iver, New Order, legendary New Orleans ensemble the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and iconic film composer Hans Zimmer, California’s beloved desert festival is in for a wild time when Coachella takes over Indio over two weekends in April.
Alongside King Gizzard are a slew of Aussies – What So Not, Anna Lunoe, Empire of the Sun, POND, Jagwar Ma and The Avalanches are all set to perform. Lorde will also be there to represent New Zealand, in what will be one of her first major shows since 2014.
Though there aren’t any major reunions to note amongst the list, there are plenty of artists who, like Lorde, will be marking their Coachella appearance as one of their first of a new album cycle. French electronic stars Justice will play one of their first live shows since 2014, having also been announced for Ultra a few weeks earlier.
The festival also marks a major return by Two Door Cinema Club, whose return to touring in 2016 sparked much excitement amongst fans. Also notably, the inclusion of Beyoncé on the Coachella lineup as headliner marks the first time a female has headed up the bill in ten years, with Björk headlining in 2007.
