Bursting with colour, optimism and a touch of chaos, Callum Padgham’s debut single “EVERYTHING IS A BLESSING” arrives alongside an ambitious, year-in-the-making official video — premiering today exclusively on the AU review.
Having previously built a solid following as DJ Be Kind to Other People, Padgham steps into his own name with a song that’s as joyous as it is sincere, describing it as “a celebratory reminder that our biggest challenges can be our greatest teachers.” The track’s buoyant energy — think S Club 7 meets Ben Lee at a Himalayan yogi retreat — pairs perfectly with a spectacular year-long visual, filmed across four seasons in the same Melbourne park.
Inspired by the intricate single-shot style of OK Go, the video captures a kaleidoscope of changing weather, colour, and emotion. Padgham and a crew of 29 creatives dedicated nearly three years to bringing it all to life — a logistical feat that mirrors the song’s message of perseverance and joy.
“With the help of some creative mates, I embarked on the toughest logistical challenge of my life,” he recalls. “Filming a choreographed routine in the same iconic Melbourne park on a perfect summer’s day, a rainy arvo in winter, a windy day in autumn and the darkest depths of night! … I’m not gonna lie, locking down 10 crew-members and 4 cast-members for 4 outdoor shoots, weather-dependent, plus dance rehearsals over a nine-month period, was no ‘walk in the park’.”
When a major obstacle threatened to derail the shoot, it turned into a powerful lesson that truly captured the spirit of the song.
“All 14 of us showed up at the park one blustery morning in autumn to find our exact location completely fenced off and bulldozers tearing up the path,” Padgham says. “Worse still, our choreographer had flown down from Brisbane specifically for the shoot and half the crew had taken work off months in advance. I was absolutely gutted and felt responsible for ruining the video and wasting everyone’s time. But, how’s this for a silver lining? When the fences eventually came down and we filmed the sequence a month later, autumn was absolutely peaking and we ended up capturing the best-looking sequence of the entire clip. I couldn’t believe our luck.”
From viral punk-rock mashups to hosting his own dance-music talk show Coburg Up Late, Padgham’s creative journey has always been fearless and full of heart. Now, with “EVERYTHING IS A BLESSING”, he channels that same energy into a project that took “29 talented humans almost three years to bring to life.”
“I believe in ‘Everything is a Blessing’ — the song and the message — and I’m over the moon to finally show the world this special part of who I am.”
An irresistibly upbeat debut from a true creative spirit, “EVERYTHING IS A BLESSING” marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Callum Padgham — one built on gratitude, community, and pure pop joy. It was a monumental effort to put it together, and such a brilliant affirmation of the respect everyone involved had for the project. Chapeau!
