As we head into Tuesday, we’ve survived the Sunday-scaries, struggled through moody-Monday, and now, the rest of the week can be enjoyed with the help of a banging new tune, “The Crying Wolf” from Americana artist, Nate Currin. This is a golden slice of boot stomping, honky-tonk blues which is crying out for the dance floor. We’re delighted to be premiering it ahead of its release on Thursday.
Ironically, the song is written about a guy who just doesn’t want to get up and strut his stuff. It’s very much written from a personal perspective, from an artist who describes himself as someone not normally dancing in public – “….I’m like two different people, the performer and the introvert.“. Our protaganist faces a rowdy night of dancing, drinking and fighting in a Nashville that he doesn’t recognise anymore. The track will be on Nate’s ninth album, Ghost Town, which will be released on the 1st of August.
Nate sings of wanting a quiet night, but there’s no chance of that with the rip-roaring guitars on this. “All I wanna do is have a quiet night / Grab a table in the back and get out of sight”, but you don’t always get what you wish for. In this case, it’s anything but. He is an evocative songwriter, with vocals that have an earthy rich, tone to them, and blistering guitars that get you rockin’. The drums and percussion help bring this to a climax.
About the track, Nate told the AU: “The Crying Wolf was a bar in Nashville that we used to frequent, and it’s the inspiration for this song about my many different experiences, in many different cities, while being on the road. I’m an introvert, but it seemed like I always had friends, fans or acquaintances in every city we’d tour through, who’d try to get me to meet up or come out after a show. I’d be so tired and cranky and just want to go lay in a hotel bed instead. Essentially, that’s what the song ‘The Crying Wolf’ is about. All I want is a quiet night and some rest. And inevitably, we’d be going out and someone would be causing trouble or wanting to stay out too late or whatever. And that life has never been me.”
Helping out on the track was Cody Preston on electric guitar, Tom Ryan on bass guitar, Jon Poole on drums and Stephen Mason on backing vocals. It was produced by Jon Poole.
Hailing from Florida/Georgia, his upcoming album, Ghost Town, (pre-order HERE) was written in the wake of a massive breakup. It’s an album which delves into folk-rock, bluegrass, honky-tonk blues and some cosmic country. It’s an album for the road, the journey taken, physically and emotionally. The ups and downs, the beauty and reckoning from life’s challenges are traversed across the fifteen tracks.
Along the way, Nate has earned five International Music & Entertainment Awards (IMEA), including multiple Songwriter of the Year honors, as well as nominations for Indie Music Awards and a Georgia Music Award. He has shared stages with some incredible artists, including Butch Walker, Neon Trees, Blues Traveler, Shawn Mullins, Alabama, Hunter Hayes and Jars of Clay.
