We’re thrilled today to premiere Laura Ingram’s fiery new single, “Not Another Fool” — a guitar-heavy, salty southern-soul anthem that marks a striking new chapter for the Melbourne artist. To be released tomorrow, the 21st of November, the track sees Ingram tapping into a grittier, more fearless side of her songwriting.
While early releases like “Valentine’s Day” and “Home For Christmas” leaned into smooth modern soul, “Not Another Fool” explodes with 80s-inspired rock power and southern-soul swagger. Featuring guitarist Tom Martin (The Putbacks, The Meltdown), Dan Mougerman, Richard Bradbeer and drummer Luke Collins, the track laces tight grooves with scorching guitar lines — all anchored by Ingram’s commanding vocal performance.
“Not Another Fool” was born of the clarity that comes after an unhealthy relationship — one in which Ingram found herself stuck in a cycle she knew she had to break. The song emerged from what she describes as “one of many bad break-ups,” when the other person wanted to get back together “even though they didn’t want to change what wasn’t working.” Recognising the pattern, she realised she needed to stand up for herself and walk away.
That emotional fire is woven directly into her vocal delivery. Ingram says she had to summon anger to make the final decision to leave: “I really love this person, but if I’m not mad at them, I will not leave.”. The songwriting process, she explains, ultimately pushed her to wise up — a hard-won lesson in putting herself first.
Despite the intensity behind its origins, “Not Another Fool” has quickly become one of the most energising and inclusive moments in her live set. With its punchy, guitar-forward energy, she says it gives her the chance to tap into a more “exaggerated and fearless” version of herself on stage. It also marks an exciting expansion of her creative palette — not a reinvention, but a reflection of her multifaceted artistry. “I still love writing soul-jazz tunes,” she says, “but I’m really excited to stretch out and play more gritty southern soul and 80s-inspired power ballads.”. We’re thankful for it – the passion and powerhouse vocals on this are next-level.
The single arrives as a limited edition 7” vinyl, and will be celebrated with a full-band launch show at The Bergy Bandroom on Thursday, 11th December 2025. Get along and support live music!
Bold, bruised and unapologetically cathartic, “Not Another Fool” is Laura Ingram at her fiercest.
