Exclusive Single Premiere: Katy Denney “Flowers in My Hair” (2026)

Katy Denney

Back in February, the AU review premiered Katy Denney’s “Bad At This”, introducing readers to a songwriter whose blend of indie folk intimacy and emotionally rich storytelling immediately struck a chord. Now, we’re thrilled to once again be showcasing new music from the Sydney artist, premiering her latest single “Flowers in My Hair” ahead of its official release tomorrow.

Continuing right where she left off, Denney leans into the same beautifully observational songwriting that made “Bad At This” such a compelling introduction. “Flowers in My Hair” is filled with elegant turns of phrase, imagery that instantly pulls you into its world, and vocals delivered with warmth and restraint.

It may only be the third track Denney has released onto streaming platforms, but there is already a maturity to her songwriting that feels well beyond her years. Her music lives in the details — the fleeting moments, borrowed habits and emotional residue people leave behind as they move through our lives.

As Denney explains:

“Flowers in My Hair is about the small things that people leave with you as you go through life. I think in someway, parts of us end up a collection of other peoples habits. It’s such a delicate thing to feel and sometimes really weird to discover – that a mundane thing like the way you cross the street or take your coffee is borrowed from or learned together with someone else. Ultimately we’re all individuals but I like to think of these little things as something pretty and flowery to tuck behind your ear and put in your hair.”

Delicate, thoughtful and quietly captivating, “Flowers in My Hair” further cements Katy Denney as one of the more exciting emerging voices in Australia’s indie folk space.

“Flowers in My Hair” is officially out on May 22nd, but you can hear it first right here on the AU review.
