Exclusive Single Premiere: Howlite “Still I Find” (2023)

Howlite

Melbourne-based alt pop trio Howlite make a welcome return this week with their beautifully euphoric new single “Still I Find”. We are pleased to bring you this exclusive first listen to the single before its official release on Thursday 25th May.

“Still I Find” is the band’s first release since 2021 and their pandemic-shaped hiatus. Any concerns that the extended break may have hindered the trio can be dismissed right away. If anything, they’re sounding better than ever.

The single, which sees them teaming up with producer Tyson Fish and frequent collaborator JP Fung, is a smouldering, synth-laden anthem of resilience and positivity, which really showcases the band’s penchant for beautifully dramatic musicality.

According to vocalist and songwriter Alison Thom, the track grew out of “listening to a lot of hymn-like folk songs, particularly Paul Kelly’s ‘Come and Meet Me In The Middle of the Air’”.

With initial writing started during Melbourne’s many lockdowns, the song initially focused, understandably, more heavily on themes of despair. But, through workshopping “Still I Find” has developed into something altogether more hopeful. According to Thom, the finished track now represents “our human ability to choose to be optimistic and reorient ourselves to see the best in the situation.”

It’s a powerful sentiment, and one which translates well into song, with Howlite’s signature soundscape of synths, explosive percussion and powerful emotive vocals creating a welcome feeling of optimism and elation.

The band will be celebrating the single’s release with a Melbourne show at Thornbury’s Shotkickers on Thursday 1st June. Support on the evening comes from emerging singer-songwriter Bella Deer. Tickets can be found HERE. You should also keep an eye out on release from an accompanying music video. Filmed in Melbourne’s inner North, and directed by Guy Perkins and Mike Ridley it promises to be something special.

Howlite’s new single “Still I Find” is officially released Thursday 25th May. Pre-save the single HERE. You can keep up to date with the band via Facebook, Instagram and their Official Website.
