Exclusive Single Premiere: Arty Ziff ft. Lemonade Baby “Rockstar” (2023)

Arty Ziff

If you need to get dancing again after the rigours of January then have we got just the track for you. Today we have the premiere of “Rockstar” from Melbourne-based producer Arty Ziff. The track features the dreamy vocals of alt-pop artist, Lemonade Baby.  “Rockstar” follows on from their previous release “ByeByeBaby” that featured Jade Alice.

Kicking off with some reverb vocals, the lyrics don’t stray too much from the aspirational mantra of “Rockstar Baby tonight” . And they don’t need to either, with the vocals floating between registers, paired with a captivating beat and sweet falsettos that cross into some lush harmonies.  “Rockstar” is lush and fabulous. Crank this up, throw some shapes and be your own rock star tonight.

About the song, Arty Ziff writes: “‘Rockstar’ to me is about the perfect night out, and for that one night you are a rockstar. Initially this song was meant to be an instrumental, but when Lemonade Baby got his hands on it, the track transformed into a party anthem.”

Arty produced the track, and it was mixed by SUB-human (Slumberjack, What So Not).

We’ve also got the accompanying video. It’s beautifully abstract, and was filmed and directed by Jam Nawaz and beloved comedian Mark Samual Bonanno from Aunty Donna, who also stars in the clip. The video was shot in Bulleke-bek/Brunswick and features some eye-catching dancing in the streets.

The video is inspired by two things,” comments Arty Ziff. “Iconic solo dancer video clips, (‘Weapon of Choice‘ by Fatboy Slim, ‘Lonely Boy‘ by The Black Keys) and the viral Techno Viking video. We find our protagonist either early morning or early night trying to find a secret party. But on the way there, he is dancing to his favourite song.”

It’s a great clip – I love the mixup of close and long shots, and the low-light segments elevates it.

“Rockstar” will be released on Thursday 2nd Feb, 2023. You can pre-save the track HERE.
