South Australians Hana & Jessie-Lee have been toiling away in fusing together an array of influences in producing some great country music, the final result of which coming together in their debut album, Southlands. Keen listeners already heard some hits of their new music in “Maryses” and “Eight Tonne Shackles” but now, we’ve got the full Southlands goodie bag to share!
Incorporating country licks with great doses of soul and roots music as well, the album displays both musicians’ deft talent at weaving through influences and traditional sounds while pushing their own flavour forward.
Southlands itself, ‘started as a rough idea and very quickly became a moving machine with nearly all songs written in the space of six months,’ says Hana. ‘…Channelling my love of old country, alt-country and soul through Nick Finch‘s arrangement ideas as well as his skills in song craft and lyrics.’
The duo’s album tour kicks off tomorrow night at the Old Bar in Melbourne but in the meantime, hit play on the album below!
