Now that we know that she’ll be down here as part of this year’s Bluesfest, it’s no surprise to see neo-soul queen Erykah Badu announce a few sideshows up and down Australia’s east coast to support her visit.
Presented by Bluesfest Tours, the Walk Between Worlds tour will see Erykah Badu will touch down in Melbourne on Wednesday 1st April to a show at Margaret Court Arena before playing Bluesfest two days later, on Friday 3rd April. It’s on to Sydney the night after for a show at TikTok Entertainment Centre (formerly the ICC Theatre) in Darling Harbour on Saturday 4th April. And just like that, she’ll have run through her first Australian tour in 12 years.
The five-time Grammy Award winning singer will be celebrating her extensive discography, plucking out hits from her career, which spans from 1998 to now and continues to posture her as a cultural icon, who, along with the likes of Maxwell, D’Angelo and Jill Scott, helped pioneer an entire subgenre of R&B and give us timeless hits such as “On & On” and “Window Seat”.
Most recently, Badu has been seen on tracks including “3:AM” by Robert Glasper and an album by heavyhitters like The Alchemist. If they are anything to go by, Erykah hasn’t lost a single step in her silky, jazz-inflected style and so this brief Australian tour is simply unmissable for fans of her deeply intuitive, improvisational style of performing.
