Canada's No Kids among the final Sugar Mountain Festival line-up announcement.

Sugar Mountain Festival – Saturday 30 April 2011 – The Forum, Melbourne

FINAL LINE-UP ANNOUNCEMENT

The Sugar Mountain Festival is an exciting newcomer to Melbourne’s thriving arts scene, taking place on Saturday 30 April 2011 over multiple locations in Melbourne’s city centre, including The Forum Theatre, No Vacancy Gallery at Federation Square and The Atrium. Celebrating the diverse creative forms of music and visual art, Sugar Mountain will showcase an inspired selection of local and international musicians and creative artists, and some not to be missed one-off performances.

We are pleased to reveal the final line-up announcement for the 2011 Sugar Mountain Festival:

Comprised of three quarters of the critically revered pop band P:ANO, NO KIDS (CANADA) are multi-instrumentalists Julia Chirka, Justin Kellam, and singer/songwriter Nick Krgovich. Influenced by Golden-era Hollywood musicals, Jam and Lewis-inspired production techniques, the icy displacement of contemporary R’n’B, and the breadth of Arthur Russell’s disco, pop, and avant garde compositional work, No Kids produce lush, cinematic music with sweeping orchestral arrangements. The band released their debut album Come Into My House on Tomlab Records back in 2008, and we are very excited to see them play at the very first Sugar Mountain Festival.

COOLIES (NZ) are an incredible garage punk girl group from South Auckland. Back in the mid/late nineties, the three teenage school chums got together to play the kind of music that might have caused Johnny Rotten himself to spin in his grave, had he actually been dead (might as well have been). Back then, Coolies’ take on punk and rock’n’roll was inspired, it must be pointed out, by nobody at all. Nonetheless, their signature was a sweet and swinging rah-rah sound and a burning teenage desire to burn things down. Having developed a cult following over the following two decades, the sometimes-on-sometimes-off Coolies have played alongside Deerhoof, Calvin Johnson, Erase Errata, Ariel Pink, Weird War, Total Shutdown and Bobbyteens.

Hailing from the east coast of Australia and currently residing in New York, YOUNG MAGIC is Isaac Emmanuel, a portable studio and friends. Following the release of a double A side single, Young Magic is set to release his debut full length album on Carpark Records (home to Beach House, Toro Y Moi, Dan Deacon) this year. His body of music was written and recorded in various places around the world: old spy bases near Berlin, empty rooms in Iceland, kids’ playgrounds in Melbourne, and no water flats in New York. These various locales are sampled and integrated into the fabric of Young Magic’s sound: the fluidity and songwriting of late 60s psychedelic soul combined with modern-day beat making.

GALAPAGOOSE is Melbourne beatmaker and programmer Trent Gill. An electronic project of Monome mastery, Gill impressed many over the duration of 2010 with his delightfully unconventional beats and samples. Gill has gone on to be billed with some of today’s most exciting names in electronic music, including Flying Lotus and Gaslamp Killer. Galapagoose is the artist to watch in 2011.

Plus visual artists RYAN HEYWOOD, CODY HUDSON (USA), GEORG and MARK WARREN JACQUES (USA).

Early bird tickets have now completely sold out, and general tickets are selling fast.
