Album Review: Ball Park Music – Conquer the Town, Easy as Cake (2010 EP)

Dear Ball Park Music,

“I don’t really know you but I like to have imaginary conversations in my head… Where I tell you off and you go home with your tail between your legs” (Sea Strangers)…

Well… I don’t really plan to tell you off, but that has been my stuck rolling around my head and I just want to know… What happened to the prominence of horns?  The “Rolling on the floor, Laughing ourselves to sleep” CD roped me in with the intricate layers but this “Conquer the Town, Easy as Cake” EP didn’t. Have we drifted apart? It hasn’t even been a year yet… I don’t think you changed much “But honey no, nothing is right. It never is at least not tonight” (Sea Strangers) and tonight I ask. Are you worth it?

I like the present you gave to me for my birthday this year. The upbeat and melodic track “Sea Strangers” definitely had my friends paying attention and approving of this relationship. The new one out now (“iFly”) isn’t too bad either. I definitely see you making new friends with this one. Many chorus joiners and drunk sing-a-longs at the local pub and if you don’t have the whole room participating yet I’m sure the clappers will start for “The Ghost I saw When I Was Dreaming” (possible head banging too… but that might be a little drastic).

It was nice to hear the horns again for “Hello Anais” even though I don’t really like drawn out notes but it’s ok, after listening to all that I have made my decision and it seems you have nothing to worry about “I fucking love you I think you are pretty. I fucking love you all of the time” (iFly).

Enjoy your 7 out of 10.

Love, Laurachel
