Baker Boy, Kardajala Kirridarra, Jessica Mauboy amongst National Indigenous Music Award nominees

The finalists for this year’s National Indigenous Music Awards have been revealed today, as well as the artists who are set to perform at the ceremony in Darwin on August 11th. Baker Boy (pictured), Jessica MauboyDan Sultan and Kardajala Kirridarra are among the nominees, each having had absolute belters of 2018 thus far.

Both Baker Boy and Kardajala Kirridarra are also on the performer’s list for the NIMA’s this year, alongside artists including Busby MarouYirrmalKasey Chambers and Alan Pigram and Roger Knox.

“The growth in the National Indigenous Music Awards has mirrored the growth of Indigenous music more generally over the last fifteen years,” said NIMA Reference Group Chair Warren H. Williams. “As our musicians have continued their journey of taking their rightful place at the forefront of Australian music, the awards have been there not just to celebrate their successes, but to be a launching pad for new talent and discovery vehicle for musicians, whether they are from Darwin, Devonport, Derby, Dubbo or the Daintree.”
