AYLA announces debut album Dopamine and releases a single to celebrate

AYLA

Australian singer/songwriter AYLA began releasing music at the tender age of 18 – before starting a University degree in audio production and music business. Fast forward almost a decade and she is releasing another single from her forthcoming debut album, Dopamine.

A string of heavy-hitting singles such as “Like the Other Kids”, “Waiting”, “Shallow End” and “Go Slow” have paved the way for AYLA’s debut album, set for release in July 2024. Her latest single “I Liked You Better When You Were on My Side,” is a sultry and moody song influenced by Massive Attack’s “Teardrop.”

Co-written and produced by Telanova’s Ed Quinn, the track is a nostalgic narrative that transports listeners to the end of a night at a party, where the music softly plays, and solitude sets in.

Ayla shares the process that she and Quinn went through in evolving the song:

“We refined the structure and added new elements to take the song to the next level. It was a collaborative effort that brought a real effortless groove to the production”.

For AYLA, “I Liked You Better When You Were on My Side” represents a celebration of personal growth and resilience that is mirrored in her musical evolution. With its nostalgic undertones and positive energy, it embodies the spirit of moving forward while honouring cherished memories.

Her 2020 single “Go Slow”, co-written and produced by Peking Duk’s Rueben Styles, nailed her a place in Australian music. For the album Dopamine, AYLA enlisted a massive team of collaborators, including Taka Perry, Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music), LDRU, Sam Thomlinson (Bad Pony), Danny Harley (The Kite String Tangle) as well as sound engineer Peter Holz (Vance Joy, Gang of Youths) on mixing duties.

As she continues to captivate audiences with her distinct style and emotive storytelling, AYLA invites listeners to join her on a journey of introspection and empowerment. Ahead of the album’s release, AYLA will be playing a special show on 7 July at Solbar, giving fans a preview of what to expect.
