Aussies at CMW: Spotlight on 2016 Showcase Artist, DARTS!

Melbourne five piece DARTS are set to make their Canadian Music Week debut tomorrow and before they hit Toronto’s music scene, we get to know a bit more about the group and their approach to the 2016 event! Lead vocalist and guitarist Ally Campbell takes the reins for this ‘Getting to Know You’ rundown…

Have you played CMW before? If so, how many times?

We’re first timers! We’re already in love with the country. Everyone is so nice! We spoke to a couple of friends back home who have played CMW before, co coming into it, we have a basic idea of the logistics what to do and not to do. Expecting an epic time!

What are you hoping will come out of this year’s event for you?

We’re huge fans of the music scene here, so we can’t wait to get amongst it! We’re hoping to get some contacts to help us branch into the international circuit. Toronto is similar to Melbourne in its music scene, so we’re hoping we’ll be received well and people enjoy the shows we put on.

Why should CMW attendees come and see you?

This is always a hard question. The only answer I have is that we are a band you won’t [regret] seeing. We travelled a long way to bring you our blend and if you don’t leave remembering us, we’ll buy you beers. Australians are the best to drink with. We promise that.

What is a track that you think best represents where your band is right now, and what audiences can expect from your sound and your set?

Our live sets really have two tones: aggressive, noisey and punchy.

Partnered with shoegazy, melancholic and dreamy.

What made you want to showcase at CMW?

We played a similar festival back home last year, and it was one of our best experiences as a band. It opened up so many doors for us, one of them being CMW. Getting to experience all of that again on Canadian turf was a no-brainer.

Do you have any dream collaborations?

Too many. Right now though, I’m really into Dilly Dally. Katie Monks’ voice is killer.

How much more international touring is on the cards for this year?

Whatever we can get our hands on. We’re just taking it as it comes, really. At this stage, we’re expecting to be back here towards the end of the year.

How do you think / hope the Canadian crowd will receive your music?

Hopefully well! I mean, I think there’s a scene here that will love what we do. We play honest music that we hope people can draw something from.

What other Aussie act playing CMW would you recommend the rest of the world needs to see?

Timberwolf for sure. You can catch him with us at the Aussie BBQ!

Please list your CMW showcases (to now) and give us a link where we can find your most up to date list!
