Artists at BIGSOUND 2016: Allan Smithy (Sydney) talks game plans and kicking goals in Brisbane this week!

Sydney’s Allan Smithy is a lad we’ve been enjoying watch develop as a live performer through this year (he recently impressed at our 8th birthday party last month) and this week, we can’t wait to see how he goes at BIGSOUND. Returning for another round of showcase madness, he lets us in on how he’s planning on attacking the event in 2016 and how his show at the Black Bear Lodge is falling into place…

If you’ve attended BIGSOUND before, how did that experience treat you?

I’ve been to BIGSOUND a couple of times and it is definitely a BIG couple of days.

There are going to be so many shows to be seeing; do you have any type of game plan going into BIGSOUND this year when it comes to dealing with the craziness?

The hardest thing is keeping track of time. I like to think I have a game plan (a.k.a have a timetable in my pocket), but I will probably just go with the flow and see where the nights take me.

Are there any particular artists you’re keen to see that you’d recommend someone else hitting BIGSOUND for the first time?

I think which ever stage you go to you will hear some good music, but I would definitely recommend A.D.K.O.B, Alex Lahey, Australia, and that’s only the A’s!

For emerging Australian talent, what would you say is one of the biggest things you could hope to take away from an event like BIGSOUND?

If you play a good show and have a good time, then you’ve kicked some goals. There are heaps of people around and I think a lot of work goes in before BIGSOUND, so by the time you get there you may as well just have a good time.

In terms of new music, can you tell us a bit about what you’re working on at the moment and if you’re going to be looking to show off some fresh or new tunes for the BIGSOUND crowd?

I’ve almost finished my debut EP (just crossing the T’s and dotting all the lower case J’s), so I will definitely be testing out some songs in their current form. I’m only playing six songs, so it’s safe to say most of it will be on the EP.

What music of yours should we be checking out ahead of BIGSOUND?

You know what is bigger than big? Huge – it’s a four letter word that you can easily substitute into my latest release, “Four Letter Reason”.

Allan Smithy performs at the Black Bear Lodge as part of BIGSOUND on Wednesday, September 7th from 8:20pm.
