George Costanza themed bar opens in Melbourne

Many bars across Australia have themes, but none quite like this. A new bar in Melbourne, named George’s Bar, has opened in Fitzroy, and it’s entirely dedicated to television’s legendary neurotic, Seinfeld’s George Costanza.

Opened on New Years Eve with a massive party, George’s Bar sports various memorabilia and quotes from Jason Alexander’s famous character, a theme which extends onto the bar’s cocktail menu, which tailored around jokes from the iconic show, like The Hand Model (Jack Daniels smashed with creaming soda, lemon, cinnamon powder, and chick pea brine) and The Summer of George (Freshly squeezed Granny Smith Apples, with your choice of spirits and bitters).

There has been no word whether or not the bar snacks menu features big salads, spicy kung pao chicken, calzones from pizano’s, mulligatawny soup, non-fat yoghurt, chocolate babka, marble rye, gyros from random train station vending machines, pretzels, junior mints, twix bars, chips and dip (so you can double dip), bosco on absolutely everything, pez, snickers you can eat with cutlery, mangos, t-bone steaks, fusilli….the possibilities really are endless with this theme. There are toasties though, referencing the show, including Art Vandalay and the Costanza.

With quotes from George all over the bar, like “It’s not a lie if you believe it” and “Everyone must like me, I must be liked,” it sounds like the team behind the bar (one of the co-owners, David Barrett, is behind Melbourne’s Laundry Bar) have done a fantastic job sticking to theme, with reports that they are working on layering the experience as the bar ends it’s first week of operation and sets out to be become one of the most talked about small bar’s of 2016.

Let’s hope they do something big for Festivus.

George’s Bar is located at 120 Johnston St, Fitzroy, Melbourne and it is open 7 days from 6pm ’til late. You can check them out on Facebook HERE
