It’s official. After long running rumours, the PlayStation 5 Pro has been officially revealed via PlayStation’s latest Technical Showcase, along with a new hefty price tag and November 7 release date.
The console will also be priced at A$1199.95 down under. While we’re getting an increase in processing power, we’re unfortunately not getting a disc drive, which is a little brave, given it’s the only option. You’ll have to spend the extra A$159 on the disc drive, should you want it. In line with the slim version of the PS5, the PS5 Pro will also not come with that A$49 vertical stand.
The PS5 Pro will be getting these neat hardware upgrades, as outlined by PS5 Lead Architect Mark Cerny:
- Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
- Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
- AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
The console will also be getting 2TB SSD as standard, which does admittedly compliment the digital shift.
The PS5 Pro will also feature a Pro Game Boost option, which will bolster and improve the existing performance of 8500 currently available PS5 games and PS4 games via backwards compatibility.
Pre-orders for the console will begin on the 26th of September, so be sure to check your local leading hardware and games retailers for availability.
