The entire original Mass Effect trilogy is now compatible with Xbox One Backwards Compatibility. Both titles dropped for the console as a part of EA’s N7 Day celebrations.
These releases have been a long time coming for Xbox-bound Mass Effect fans and was, for a time, thought to be potentially impossible due to the backwards compatibility feature inability to play games that were originally spread across multiple discs. A recent update to allow Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut to run on Xbox One indicated that Microsoft had finally cracked the problem.
Mass Effect 2 is still considered one of the series’ most popular titles to date, evolving considerably from the original’s more conventional RPG roots. Mass Effect 3 remains far more contentious and polarising, the ripples from the storm of controversy caused by its ending still felt throughout the industry today.
Here’s the thing though: if you haven’t played any of the Mass Effect trilogy yet, don’t stress. Knowledge of the original trilogy should not in any way impede your ability to understand or enjoy Mass Effect Andromeda when it releases next year.
