Marvel’s Avengers delayed to September

Crystal Dynamics has announced that Marvel’s Avengers will miss its May 15 release date.

The game’s developer announced today that the game’s launch date has been pushed back to September 4, 2020.

“When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come,” said the studio.

“To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.”

The game drew criticism during its announcement at E3 last year over what fans perceived to be lacklustre character models and by-the-numbers combat. Further trailers helped boost fan confidence, but complaints about the look of each hero remained.

We found the build we played at PAX Aus last year to be solid and certainly flashy, but definitely in need of further work. Hopefully, the extra time will give CD everything it needs to make the game the best it can be. Avengers represents two of the top five highest-grossing films of all time — there’s immense pressure to get this right.

Marvel’s Avengers launches September 4, 2020, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC and Google Stadia.
