Nintendo kept us up till the wee hours delivering the first of its two Directs this week. The first one focused purely on The Legend of Zelda, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. With the recent announcement of the Ocarina of Time remake, I was excited to see some actual gameplay footage and what else they have in store for this classic character.
Coming in at a solid 34 minutes, the direct showed us an extensive look at the remake and more information about what Nintendo have in store for Zelda’s 40th anniversary.
The show started with an orchestral live performance of the Zelda theme song. Set to clips of the various games over the years and a beautiful choir, it was incredibly moving.
The Legend of Zelda – Live Action Film
The studio confirmed the upcoming live-action film will be a completely original story, and will be released in cinemas on April 30, 2027.
Nintendo Museum
A special history board and Zelda-themed tickets will go up at the Nintendo Museum in Uji, Japan. Zelda will also feature in the new cafe opening later on this year.
40th Anniversary Concert
A live orchestra experience that will be showing across Japan, North America, Europe and Melbourne, Australia!
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
We got an official release date and some incredible footage of the remake, now revealed to be releasing on the 5th of November, 2026. Have a look at the latest trailer below:
Zelda Notes
New features include Today’s Record; you can see your accomplishments on a particular day in chronological order. The game takes screenshots and gives you stats on enemies defeated. Gossip Quests also use the image on the app to find the image in the game.
New Amiibos on the Way
Young Link and Young Zelda will hit Ocarina of Time with exclusive in-game features.
New Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition comes with a fully decked-out Switch 2, dock, Pro Controller, carrying case and screen protector, launching on the 29th of October, 2026.
