First look at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 gameplay is here

Breath of the Wild 2

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. The trailer Nintendo’s E3 Direct audience held their breath for, hoping to see. After its Zelda Direct earlier in the year left the community cold, Nintendo’s E3 drop couldn’t disappoint. And it didn’t.

Franchise lead Eiji Aonuma appeared to introduce a number of Zelda products — Skyward Sword HD, a new Game & Watch with classic titles on board — before getting down to business.

The new trailer features never-before-seen footage of Breath of the Wild 2, including a major move into the skies above Hyrule.

The trailer is short and sweet — only one minute and thirty eight seconds long — but is densely packed. We have so many questions. What’s going on with Hyrule Castle and its sudden lift into the air? What’s going on with Link’s new Johnny Silverhand arm? Can we really use a flamethrower? Are those new powers or creative ways to use old ones? It’s a lot.

There’s still no release date for Breath of the Wild 2 beyond a newly promised launch window of 2022. If we had to guess, we would say very late 2022 with a high likelihood of delays into 2023.

Also unconfirmed? A title. We’re all out here calling it BotW2 but we don’t actually know that that is its title. We’ll find out more about that over the coming year.
