EA officially announces Star Wars Battlefront II

Though its existence has been something of an open secret for a while now, Electronic Arts have formally announced the follow-up to their 2015 shooter Star Wars Battlefront. Moreover, Star Wars Battlefront II will have its first official showing at Star Wars Celebration 2017.

The Star Wars Celebration convention will kick off in mid-April with the first footage from the game being shown during a panel rather baldly named The Galaxywide Premiere of Star Wars Battlefront II. Key members of the game’s three (!!) development teams at DICE Motive and Criterion will be on hand to introduce the footage and talk about their goals and hopes for the project. That panel will kick off at 3pm EST April 15 (that’s 5am AEST April 16 for Australian fans) and will be livestreamed online.

As mentioned above, the game’s existence has been openly referred to by EA brass since even before the original’s release. Today’s announcement really only makes the title official, and follows the same naming conventions as the original mid-2000’s Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront II titles created by the dearly-departed Pandemic Studios.

Star Wars Battlefront II will likely launch in Q4 this year ahead of Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s release in theatres, though no release date has been confirmed at the time of publication. Similarly, no release platforms have been confirmed as yet but its safe to assume a PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC release will be forthcoming.
