Cyberpunk 2077 delayed into September

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed.

Developer CD Projekt Red made the announcement via their official Twitter account. The post details the studio’s reasoning for the delay and what they hope to achieve by the new release date, September 17, 2020.

“We’re currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done,” reads the statement. “We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”

Of course, the news won’t come as a surprise to anyone who has followed CD Projekt Red’s work. The studio is notorious for its perfectionist streak. CD Projekt delayed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt again and again in the lead up to its 2015 release.

Further, Cyberpunk 2077 now sits at the end of the current hardware cycle, with new consoles arriving in November.

Cyberpunk 2077 will now launch September 17, 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
