Crackdown 3 has been delayed into 2018

Crackdown 3, the long-awaited third entry in the open-world superpowered police series, has been delayed into 2018 according to a new report from Polygon.

The reason for the delay, according to Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager Shannon Loftis, is that the game’s three (!!) primary developers Reagant Games, Sumo Digital and Cloudgine require more time to complete and polish the title to their satisfaction.

Originally announced during Microsoft’s E3 2014 presser, this is not the first prospective release date the game has missed. Loftis chalks the delays and long development time up to the game’s rather lofty single- and multiplayer ambitions paired with the complications of creating a game for 4K HDR.

Crackdown 3‘s delay creates a bit of a problem for Microsoft who were using the game’s launch as a convenient tech demo for their new Xbox One X console, itself releasing on November 7.
