The Ultimate Afterparty: Paris Wells promises to turn up the heat at Faux Mo

Always offering up the best devilish treats, MONA has once again made us want to flock to Tasmania ASAP, adding an extra flare to its already flourishing summer festival MOFO by announcing a sweeeet line up for it’s official after party- Faux Mo.

Occupying MAC2 on Hobart’s waterfront, Faux Mo is the place to be once the festivities wind down, hosting a collection of DJs and visual artists from around the world. Spanning from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 January,  Dutch-Iranian electronic artist Sevdalisa and Howeie Lee with Veeeky and Thoiid from Beijing, are just some of the international artists making an appearance.

As for local highlights, joining the electrifying bill is Melbourne artist Paris Wells. With a turbulent career filled with twists and turns, Wells is no stranger to the weird and wonderful. Playing this Sunday at Faux Mo, Wells gives us a taste of what we can expect from her set.

You’ve had quite the career, releasing two incredible albums, supporting artists like Justin Timberlake and Rod Stewart on tour and playing some of Australia’s biggest festivals! For someone who originally worked in advertising, you’ve come a long way. Does your diverse background inspire your music style?

Absolutely, I’m now importing original Scandinavian Furniture since my move back from Copenhagen and I just love doing other things aside from music, it all excites me. Peoples’ skills shouldn’t define them, only add to who they already are. I was born an emotional story teller.

As mentioned above, you’ve played some big festivals in Aus, such as Falls, Big Day Out and Meredith. What is your favourite thing about playing live in front of a festival crowd?

Festival crowds have walked into that venue to have a good time, to relax, and leave planet earth for a brief moment. So already you walk into a state of joy, you just have to keep it going for them! Also backstage you can meet the most amazing other artists that would usually be too busy to attend your show.

What are you most looking forward to at Mofo 2018? The Faux Mo line up is massive, is there anyone you’re excited to see?

I arrive Saturday, I’m going to dump my luggage and head straight to it! I LOVE Mona, I’m going to try and catch SONYA LIFSCHITZ, her historical piece looks cool. I’m also looking forward to ANIMAL FEELINGS, he’s also helping me with my show.

What can we expect from your show on Sunday? Have you got any tricks up your sleeve?

I’ve always wanted to have less breaks during my sets so for this show, seeing as it’s a late one, I’m able to go really ‘club-ish’ on my own tunes plus some favorite covers. I want people to BOOGIE, so I’m kind of doing a huge remix of my stuff with a little ‘neon’ help from the talented neon artist CARLA O’BRIAN. And as always, it’s about love, because what else is there??

Playing at Faux Mo is a pretty decent way to start off the year! What is the rest of 2018 looking like for you, can we expect new music?

I have NEW TUNES which I’m previewing in my Faux Mo show! This has been my best January yet, I’m going to finish my new tunes, continue with my podcast etc. My aim, as always, is to have a new body of work by my Birthday Aug 3.

Paris Wells will be playing Faux Mo 2018 this Sunday January 21. Mofo will continue running until January 22. For more info click here.
