Ilan Wittenberg’s Bare Truth featured as part of Head On Photo Festival

2015 Auckland photographer of the year Ilan Wittenberg will present his latest portfolio Bare Truth as part of this year’s Head On Photo Festival, exhibiting his work in Sydney in late May.

Photographed over a year, Wittenberg’s pieces feature striking monochrome portraits of a diverse selection of New Zealand men, all stripped to the waist. The men are made vulnerable, a direct contrast to the traditional view of men as physically and emotionally strong.

Wittenberg says: “I wanted to raise awareness; give men the freedom to express their feelings and connect with their emotions. This fresh look at men is an eye-opening opportunity to see real people without the ‘shield’ of clothes. The project simply reminds us of how fragile we are.”

The award winning series will be on display at the Gaffa Gallery in Sydney from May 12th until May 23rd. Wittenberg will be present for an artist talk on May 14th.
Further information on the portfolio can be found at Ilan Wittenberg’s website.
