After making her long-awaited return to the screen following more than a decade away from Hollywood in last year’s Back in Action, Cameron Diaz is continuing her relationship with Netflix, and judging by the first trailer for her latest film, Bad Day, things are about to get considerably more chaotic.
Directed by Jake Szymanski (TV’s Jury Duty), the upcoming action-comedy sees Diaz stepping into the shoes of Joy, a single mother whose determination to keep one seemingly simple promise to her daughter sends her spiralling into the worst – and wildest – day of her life. What should be an ordinary act of maternal devotion quickly becomes an increasingly outrageous ordeal, with the film promising a combination of high-stakes action, escalating mishaps and the kind of physical comedy that Diaz has always handled with effortless charm.
The newly unveiled trailer offers a taste of the madness awaiting Joy, with police pursuits, frantic encounters and an increasingly overwhelmed Diaz suggesting that keeping her word might prove far more dangerous than she ever anticipated. It’s a premise that plays directly to the actress’s comedic strengths, allowing her to balance the exasperation of a woman pushed to her limits with the determination of a mother who simply refuses to give up.
Joining Diaz for the ride is an impressive ensemble cast that includes Ben Schwartz (Sonic the Hedgehog), Ed O’Neill (TV’s Modern Family), Mark Duplass (TV’s The Morning Show), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Rob Corddry (reuniting with Diaz from What Happens in Vegas), Retta (TV’s Good Girls), Ayden Mayeri (Jackpot!) and K Callan (Knives Out).
The film also marks a reunion between Diaz and producer Beau Bauman, who previously collaborated on Back in Action, the action comedy that brought the actress out of retirement alongside Jamie Foxx. That film proved a significant success for the streamer, spending seven weeks on its Global Top 10 English-language films chart and securing a place among Netflix’s most popular films.
For Diaz, whose career has effortlessly moved between romantic comedies, broad slapstick and action-driven entertainment, Bad Day looks to be another opportunity to remind audiences of the infectious screen presence that made her one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedic performers. And if the trailer is any indication, Joy’s terrible day could make for a particularly entertaining time for everyone watching.
Bad Day will be available to stream on Netflix from December 11th, 2026.
