Continuing our series on Europe’s best festivals for 2026, Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival is gearing up for a landmark year, celebrating its 10th anniversary from 8th–11th July 2026 with one of its most expansive and genre-spanning line-ups to date.
Held at the sprawling Iberdrola Music venue, Mad Cool has quickly established itself as one of Europe’s premier summer festivals — and if ever there was a reason to build a European itinerary around Madrid, this might just be it. Known for its friendly, easygoing vibe, the festival sprawls across multiple stages, offering something for everyone, and — as is increasingly the case across Europe — a wide and varied selection of food options that go well beyond the old festival staples.
A blockbuster lineup across rock and pop
The 2026 edition leans heavily into both stadium-sized rock and global pop heavyweights, making it one of the most diverse bills on the circuit.
Among the major drawcards are Foo Fighters, returning to Spain for the first time since 2018, alongside indie favourites Wolf Alice and festival stalwarts Kings of Leon. Meanwhile, Pixies celebrate four decades of influence, and Interpol bring their unmistakable post-punk cool back to Madrid.

There’s also a strong showing from some of the most exciting live acts on the planet right now, including The Last Dinner Party and The War on Drugs, while Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are set to deliver one of the festival’s most anticipated headline performances.
And honestly — the lineup is one of the strongest we’ve seen in recent years. The idea that in a single day you could catch David Byrne, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Matt Berninger, Pulp and The Reytons is, frankly, mind-blowing. If, like me, you are mourning the loss of Splendour in the Grass to our shores, then this is as good as it gets.
On the pop front, the lineup is just as stacked. Florence + The Machine, Lorde and Pulp headline a bill that also includes Halsey, Charlie Puth and Zara Larsson — a reminder that Mad Cool continues to blur the lines between indie credibility and mainstream appeal.
A festival built for discovery — and a history of Aussie talent
Beyond the headliners, Mad Cool has built a reputation as a place to discover your next favourite act. Emerging names like Palaye Royale, Dogstar and Villanelle sit alongside rising pop artists such as Sadie Jean and Persia Holder. The Mad Cool Talent winners add a strong local flavour to the bill. These include Candela Gómez, Bad Tomato, Tape Visitors, Babylon, Break The Senses and Los Blody.
While Australian artists are thin on the ground in the current 2026 announcement, the festival has previously welcomed a number of homegrown favourites across earlier editions — including acts like Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett and DMA’S — reinforcing its place on the European circuit as a key stop for Australian artists touring the northern hemisphere summer.
There is still a strong Antipodean presence this year via Lorde (she’s one of us, right!), who makes her Madrid debut — always a standout on any festival lineup.

With its 10th anniversary edition, Mad Cool isn’t just celebrating a milestone — it’s cementing its place as one of Europe’s essential festival experiences.
And stay tuned — next in our European festival series, we are staying in Spain for the iconic Primavera Sound.
