Exclusive Single Premiere: Social Strangers “Pull the Plug” (2026)

Social Strangers

Hailing from the vibrant streets of Gadigal Land, Social Strangers are a four-piece alternative rock outfit blazing their own trail in Sydney’s heavy underground. Drawing from grunge, punk, emo rock, post-grunge and nu-metal, the band fuses raw intensity with immersive storytelling — anchored by a powerhouse female vocalist, electrifying guitar riffs and a heavy-hitting rhythm section that refuses to sit quietly in the mix.

Today, the AU review is proud to premiere their blistering new single, “Pull the Plug”, ahead of its official release this Friday. We’ve also got the video – showcasing their brilliant energy – hot off the press.

The track showcases the heavier edge of Social Strangers, pairing driving hard rock riffs with a darker conceptual core. Urgent and high-impact, “Pull the Plug” reflects on society’s growing reliance on artificial intelligence and the erosion of authentic human connection. The title becomes both a warning and a rallying cry — a metaphor for reclaiming control, switching off the noise, and choosing something real in an increasingly synthetic world.

It’s a bold statement piece, setting the tone for the band’s forthcoming companion EPs, Disconnection and Reconnection (both out this April), which explore isolation and healing as two sides of the same experience. Where one examines fracture and detachment, the other promises catharsis — together forming a thematic arc that feels particularly resonant in 2026.

Social Strangers are no strangers to big stages. They’ve already ticked off milestone performances at the Fig Grove Stage during major events, including State of Origin and Foo Fighters, and most recently delivered a standout set at the Music Box Stage for Billie Eilish’s final Sydney show. With a Japan tour locked in for April 2026, their trajectory is unmistakably upward.

If “Pull the Plug” is any indication, Social Strangers aren’t chasing trends — they’re carving out space for emotion over perfection and identity over algorithm. This is music for the socially disconnected — and for anyone ready to feel something again. Unplug and get out amongst it – this bunch of mavericks are onto something here.

If you are in Sydney, you can catch them supporting Patch. at The Chippo Hotel on the 28th March. Tickets HERE. Get out and support live music!
