From the producers of burlesque show The Delinquents, their new show Fafi D’Alour is just as fun and exciting. A five piece band sets the tone of the evening in the upstairs room at the House of Delinquents in Adelaide’s Pirie Street. It’s a feature of the Adelaide Fringe that venues are created all over the city to cater for the multitude of acts that are part of the Fringe Festival.
Girls in white towelling robes saunter through the cafe tables, teasing and flirting with the audience. The opening number features Fafi and the two girls, now minus their robes in dazzling outfits dancing to the tune of “Big Spender”. What follows is a selection of glamorous and fabulous girls in equally glamorous outfits dancing seductively to a series of tunes such as “Summertime”. The atmosphere is like the underground bars of times gone by.
The costumes deserve a special shout out, as the detail, intricacy and sparkle of them are jaw dropping. Piece by piece these garments are shed until the performers are barely dressed. Along the way the audience interaction makes it fun and entertaining. Who knows who will be temporarily wearing the fur stole?
This is not groundbreaking work, just a solid example of burlesque done with passion and flair. From the bar staff, to the band members and the performers themselves, it is a true passion project. This shows in the dedication and the presentation. This is what Fringe is all about – an event where performers can share their ardour with an appreciative audience.
