New Music Discoveries 30th January: Rum Jungle, Sally Seltmann, Telenova, and more

We’re seeing out January with ten more tracks added to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music; including two we had exclusive premieres for earlier in the week. With their UK and European tour imminent Newcastle’s Rum Jungle take out Track of the Week with their new single “Coal Dust”.

The single finds the band in a reflective mood. Full of warmth, “Coal Dust” is all about the places that shape you – the places you’re desperate to leave whilst you’re growing up; and the places you long for and crave as you get older. As the band describes it, it’s “about revisiting somewhere pivotal that once felt restrictive but now feels nostalgic…. It’s the crushing weight of growing up”. It’s bittersweet, familiar, but ultimately it makes for a compelling listen – and it’s arrived just in time for the band’s biggest UK/EU tour to date, which kicks off tomorrow. This week also sees the return of Perth indie-punk favourites Sly Withers with their new single “Look Down” and the news that they’ll be releasing their fourth studio album, To Be Honest, independently on April 10th. A driving, emotionally charged rocker, “Look Down” is all about the danger in becoming too comfortable with discomfort. By all accounts “Look Down” is a clear taste of what’s to come from the new record, their first since Overgrown in 2022 and since stepping away from their label – so we’ve got plenty to look forward to.

Sydney indie folk/pop artist Sally Seltmann returns with “Do I Want Fame?”, a ruminative and melancholic reflection on celebrity, identity and artistic ambition. The track is the latest single from her forthcoming sixth album Art School Reverie, out February 20, a record inspired by her formative years at Sydney’s College of Fine Arts. Built around softly strummed nylon guitar and blooming multi-tracked harmonies, it’s a quietly beautiful meditation on creativity and self-definition.

“IN THE NAME OF YOUR LOVE” is the latest single from Telenova; the third from their forthcoming album THE WARNING – out February 27th. According to front woman Angeline Armstrong, the song is “about having your life interrupted by love. Romantic, divine, potent — whatever kind of love it is. Something that wakes you up. Calls you upwards. To something that’s not always easy or comfortable, but is rich, deep and true.” It’s a gorgeous pop track – bright, breezy and with a real addictive charm to it. You’ll have this one on repeat for sure. The band will be heading out on tour in Australia and Europe and the UK across April and May. For more information and tickets head HERE.

Channelling the emotional ferocity of Wolf Alice and Hole, Blush tap into their fiercest instincts on the cathartic new single “EMBARRASSED 4 U”. Produced by Andy Lawson at Debaser Studio, the track pairs heavy guitars with sharp, playful swagger, transforming judgement and self-doubt into defiant power. It’s a bold, high-energy statement that cements Blush as one of Western Australia’s most exciting emerging alternative rock acts.

Byron Bay trio HEADSEND continue their rapid ascent with “And Angel”, a woozy, live-wired anthem that captures the raw intensity they’ve become known for on stage. Recorded live in studio and produced by Nick DiDia, the track follows earlier singles “Stove” and “Chugg”, showcasing a broader emotional range while retaining the band’s frenetic edge. With a debut EP due in 2026, HEADSEND are fast cementing themselves as one of Australia’s most exciting new rock acts. Get on board now!

Also added to the playlist this week is “Sisters With Me” the beautiful new single from Tom Misch, from this forthcoming sophomore album Full Circle – out March 27th. There’s some lovely guitar work on this one; and a wonderful documentary style music video from filmmaker Juliet Klottrup that’s well worth checking out. Alongside that we have “Who’s Crying When I’m Leaving?” from Swedish singer-songwriter Boy In Space – a meditation on loneliness and disconnection, it’s full of vulnerability, introspection and the odd emotional gut punch.
