Nintendo has dropped a new trailer for Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, the trailer confirms a release date of March 26.
It will also feature a mammoth amount of new features, multiplayer expansions and some new Amiibo that turns into a must have item.
Originally announced during Nintendo’s Direct last year as part of Mario’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, this upcoming upgraded edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder designed for Nintendo Switch 2 looks to be more than just a visual or performance bump. Yes, enhanced graphics and smoother gameplay are definitely part of the package here, the real thing to get excited about is the expansion of the game’s multiplayer, this is all led by the new area, in Bellabel Park.
Bellabel Park acts as the social hub, packed with mini games and attractions designed for group games. The trailer showed us two main plazas Local Multiplayer Plaza and Game Room Plaza.
Local Multiplayer Plaza supports up to four players in versus or co-op modes across 17 attractions, with GameShare support meaning only one person needs to own the game. Game Room Plaza looks after local wireless or online play, with each player using their own system. It has six attractions and supports up to eight players locally and twelve online.
Multiplayer additions are also coming to the main story mode with Toad Brigade Training Camp allowing up to four players to tackle special objectives like collecting a certain amount of coins within a time limit from courses from the main game. You can climb the ranks as you progress to reach the Elite Explorer status. There is also a side quest which follows seven Koopalings who have stolen Bellabel Park’s treasure and are hiding throughout the Flower Kingdom.
A major character has been added to the lineup with Rosalina becoming fully playable across all modes. Rosalina will be accompanied by her sidekick Luma, who can also be played as a support character to collect coins and hit enemies. The game supports mouse mode on the Nintendo switch 2, which can be used to control Luma.
The trailer also showcases a mysterious new power-up, this was briefly hinted at the end of the footage, Mario collects a flower, donning a floral-theme outfit and firing flowery discs into the air. The ability was not fleshed out, so I guess we will have to wait till closer to release date for the full reveal here.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park will release on March 26 on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo will also release three new amiibo to support the game with Elephant Mario, Poplin & Prince Florian and Captain Toad & Talking Flower.
If you own the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, you can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for $30 upgrade, which is available for pre-order now via the Nintendo E-shop.
