Exclusive Single Premiere: Evie Williams “Heather Court” (2025)

We are super excited today to be premiering Evie Williams’ evocative new single “Heather Court”, ahead of its release this Friday, December 5. A hazy indie folk-rock daydream, the track is blessed with chilled drumming, laid-back overdriven guitars and Evie’s soft, feather-light vocals — a perfect match for the song’s meditation on the restless, shifting ground of early adulthood.

With “Heather Court”, Evie leans into her moodiest palette yet, turning inward to confront the quiet tension between the version of herself she once imagined and the reality she was living. It’s a feeling she captures with raw honesty, blurring nostalgia, desire and doubt into something intimate and lightly psychedelic.

Speaking about the song, Evie shares: “‘Heather Court’ is a song about self-sabotage. It is the name of an old apartment block that I had visions of living in one day, with a beautiful balcony, a cat and a romanticised life. I would drive past and wonder how I would ever make a life like that, when I was going home to a mattress on the floor and my forgotten coffee on my desk. It highlights the feeling of wasted potential, the pearls on the dresser ready to be worn, but forgotten again.”

Built on warm, fuzzy guitar layers and a lazy drum groove, “Heather Court” hovers between indie folk and psych-rock. The dreamy, slightly frayed edges give the track an effortless sway, while Evie’s dulcet vocals drift through each verse with a soft, romantic glow. It’s chill, moody, and quietly seductive — a slow exhale of a song. Listeners will likely feel it in their own way, which speaks to how beautifully and instinctively it’s been crafted.

Since emerging in 2019, Evie has peppered releases across pop, country and indie-folk, slowly carving out a sound that feels unmistakably her own. Across the years, she’s been named a finalist for Brisbane City Council’s QUBE Effect, performed at Hidden Lanes Festival, supported EMEREE and Tyla Jane, and even sold out her debut full-band show earlier this year — a testament to her growing pull within Meanjin’s ever-expanding indie scene.
